Dear Mosaic Family, Tomorrow, we are concluding our "Prodigal" sermon series by looking at the two separate occasions, two separate women lavished their worship and devotion on Jesus by anointing him with precious oil (which cost at least a year's wages). The first account is found in Luke 7:36-50, and the second is found in Mark 14:1-11 (also retold in Matthew 26 and John 12). In both accounts, the costly devotion of each woman to Jesus stands in sharp contrast to how everyone else treated him. Many of Jesus' followers found him useful; these women found Jesus beautiful. They anointed him with their most precious possession, because He had become infinitely more precious to them. These stories have innumerable lessons and raise soul-penetrating questions. We'll engage some of these tomorrow, particularly: If you're a Christian, what does your faith cost you? A Christianity without sacrifice isn't true Christianity, because you can't practice true love without sacrifice.
Join us tomorrow as we study the heart-stirring accounts of the women with the alabaster jars.
Praying for you, Pastor Jan
