Prodigal: Paul

Dear Mosaic Family, When people think of the story of "The Prodigal Son," they usually think of it as a story of only one son who ran away from home to recklessly live the wild life. However, there were actually two sons: the younger and the older. The clean-cut, straight-edge older brother stayed home and did all the right things. When his brother returned, the older brother was angry and refused to join in the welcome-home party his dad threw for the younger brother. When his father came out to him, the older brother said: "Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command." The story ends with the older brother outside the party--angry, self-righteous, and alone. As we continue our "Prodigal" series tomorrow, we'll look at the conversion of the apostle Paul, who was very much like the older brother in the parable. His conversion experiences was not like that of Mary Magdalene, or the bitter tears of a remorseful Peter after denying Jesus, or the repentance of the thief on the cross. Paul's conversion was different: its starting point was not the pit of humiliation, but the pinnacle of pride in genuine success. Paul typifies the average Bostonian: smart, driven, successful, and self-righteous... and Jesus saved him. If there's hope for Paul, there's hope for Boston.

Join us tomorrow as we study the conversion of Saint Paul from Acts 9:1-19.

Praying for you, Pastor Jan
